Leader of the United Workers Party Ron Green says the rise in criminal activities on the island should be blamed on the high level of unemployment and poverty in the country.

Green Comments come on the heels of a broad day light robbery at the NDFD on Wednesday, where two mask armed men made their way with the day’s earnings.

Green says the crime rate is a reflection of frustration.

Meantime, the police say they are concerned about the spate of robberies in recent times.

Deputy Police Chief Cyrill Carette is urging persons with information to come forth to assist the police to apprehend the criminals.

He also says a few persons are assisting the police in their investigations.

A new Events Director is expected to be appointed on September 01, 2010.

Tourism Minister Ian Douglas says Trinidadian national Nathalie Clark were among seven other individuals who applied for the position.

Douglas says four Dominicans were among those who applied for the position but didn’t fit the criteria

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says legislations will be passed to strengthen the hands of the law enforcement agencies in Dominica.
He told the official ground breaking ceremony for a new police station in Grandbay on Wednesday, that his government will pass legislation dealing with illegal possession of firearms in Dominica.

Construction Planning Approval for the commencement of work to tap into Dominica’s water supply and export billions of gallons of the resource has been delayed by construction works at the Melville Hall Airport.

Director of Sisserou Water Inc Arthie Martin while the issue is not a problem, it will affect the delivery of final delivery drawings

The Dominica government has granted a license to the United States-based company to tap into the island’s natural water supply and export billions of gallons of the resource over a 10-year period.

Martin says the company will also be seeing to engage Dominican construction companies to tender for the exercise.

Parliamentary Representative for Roseau Central Norris Prevost says over the past few years there have been serious conflicts between the advancement of ALBA and CARICOM.

Prevost says the ALBA initiative deals directly to individual states and that has placed a wedge between the OECS countries and Trinidad.

Prevost says the ALBA agreement is a socialist agenda being pushed by the leftist governments of Latin America.

Twenty-five persons who hold public and high offices here have been charged for failing to declare their assets within a required time.
Public officials were required to declare their assets by March 31 but failed to do so and are now faced with charges under the Integrity in Public Office (IPO) Act.
United Workers Party senators Ron Green and Claudius Sanford are on the list of those charged.
Both Sanford and Green were served by a bailiff today.
Green says his assets were declared one day after the deadline.

Sanford said his lawyer was reviewing the situation because at the time of the matter, he was not a public official.
Speaker of the House of Assembly Alix Boyd Knights have been charged under the act.

New Senators Tammy Jean Jacques and Bentley Royer have also been also charged for not filing their declarations by May 31.

The other names include Chief Cultural Officer Raymond Lawrence, Fisheries Official Andrew Magloire, Chairman of DBS Radio Board Aurelius Jolly, Earl Williams, Eleanor Lambert, Director of the Christians Children’s Fund Francis Joseph, Dr. Gerald Grell, Juliette Shillingford Tonge, Dr. Dorian Shillingford, Kelvin Rolle, Byron Vernon Bynoe, Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr. Griffin Benjamin, Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly and DLP Senator Ronald Toulon, Antoine Defoe, Carl Duncan, Telecoms Director Sylvester Cadette, Marcel Nicholas, Anthony Leblanc, Urban Baron, , Nichols Esprit, Sylvester Vital.
According reports the offense carries a maximum penalty of $20,000 or jail term of two years.
Reports from the DPP states that failure to declare assets under the Integrity in Public Office (IPO) Act is a criminal offence.
Mrs. Boyde Knights has informed Kairi FM News that she declared her assets and has her receipts to prove.

On Wednesday August 4th 2010 the Dominica Water & Sewerage Company Ltd., in collaboration with the Government o the Commonwealth of Dominica will be commissioning the Campbell Water Supply.
The original Campbell Water System was first developed in 1978. The intake was built on the Deux Saison river, a relatively small river. Lack of capacity at the intake resulted in the frequent shortage of water for residents of the community.
In order to alleviate the water shortage situation and to improve he lives of the people of Campbell, the government of Dominica approved funding for the upgrade of the water system, one of the six priority projects approved for funding by the Government.
The new water system includes the construction of a 30,000 imperial gallons storage tank, a pump house and sump at Mahaut storage tank site, since the water will be pumped from the WA1 System (Springfield). 5,620ft of ductile iron pipe, 1,932ft of 90mm HDPE pipes and 350ft of 4” PVC pipes were laid.
The project was funded by the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica at a cost of $1.6million. Works commenced in January 2010 and completed in July 2010.
The community of Campbell now has a more reliable water supply which will enhance the lives of residents and promote development

An Antiguan based recycling company says its effort at recycling derelict boats in Portsmouth is not receiving the support from government.

According to a close source the project was stopped by Port manager Beniot Badouille who told the officials of the overseas company that the arrangement in order for it to function here was not done properly.

The source further stated that meetings with the Finance Minister, Prime Minister Skerrit are still ongoing but according to him the response is not encouraging, however he says the company is now awaiting the final word to continue the project.

The source went on to say that permission was granted by the Portsmouth Town Council in February this year.

He says stoppage of the project is costing his company.

The source says the company’s intention is to remove all waste and derelict vehicles in the country following it’s completion of its project in Portsmouth.

He says the jobs of 15 of its employees have been affected.
Meantime Bardouille tells Kairi News, that the company had been performing outside of the legal ambit required for undertaking such project.


According to Bardouille, the company has been apprised of what the legislative requirements are and it’s only then things could proceed.

The Government of Morocco has agreed to finance the construction of a 50 room airport hotel next to the Melville Hall Airport.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has signed an agreement with another foreign state in a bid to foster relations between the two.

On his visit to Africa, Prime Minister Skerrit and Morocco’s Foreign Minister Taib Fassi Fihri signed documents geared at strengthening political ties, economic, technical, scientific and cultural cooperation.
The two leaders are also in strengthening economic partnership through promoting investments and exploring the business opportunities offered by both countries, a joint statement signed at the end of the agreement last week stated.
