Civil Aviation Minister Rayburn Blackmoore says actual night landing in Dominica could commence in a matter of weeks.

he regional airline, LIAT, tested the night landing facilities at the Melville Hall airport last night, paving the way for inaugural and scheduled flights for Dominica.

Blackmoore says for too long, Dominica has been air-locked

he went on to say, government is also making the necessary arrangements to accommodate American Eagle flights.

Local magistrate Gloria Augustus says there has been a vast increase in the number of persons reporting abuse on the island.

These cases are being reported through the Protection Against Domestic Violence Act.

She says the court would like to see persons resolve their problems in more peaceful manner

Airport Development Coordinator Lucian Blackmoore says tonight’s testing will pave the way for inaugural and scheduled flights for Dominica.

Blackmoore says this is a historical moment for Dominica and every citizen should be proud.

Meantime LIAT’s Corporate Communications Manager Desmond Brown says the flight would be for testing purposes.

The Roosevelt Skerrit led government will seek to strengthen legislation in Dominica to prevent Predial Larceny in the agricultural sector.

Agriculture Minister Mathew Walter says government is exploring the possibility of implementing a system currently being used in St Lucia to curb the problem.

Meantime Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture Samuel Carrette says several measures have been discussed and implemented to mitigate Predial Larceny in Dominica

Carib Chief Garnet Joseph says persons from the Afro-community should cease from settling in the Carib territory.

Joseph tells Kairi News the call has been made on several occasions but the situation still exists.

He says the lands of the indigenous are private and no one else should settle there.

Work on a project to uplift the vicinity of the Roseau River area has commenced.

Mayor of Roseau His Worship Cecil Joseph says the project will seek to remove the shanty structures alongside the Roseau River.

The project is being undertaken by the government of Dominica through the ministry of tourism, in which the Roseau City Council is a stakeholder.

He says vendors alongside the Roseau River have already been informed.

A man identified as Franklyn Alfred is now dead following a drowning incident off the coast of Grand Coulibre on Sunday.
According to reports, Alfred went fishing with some other individuals when he fell in the water and drown.

He said the police was then informed and the coastguard found his body.

Alfred was married with two children.

Deputy Police Commissioner Cyril Carrette says a juvenile is in custody in connection with a stabbing incident at Jimmit earlier this morning which has resulted in the death of a bus driver.

32-year-old Donald “Honeybee” Edwards of Canefield was on his way to the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) after sustaining a stab wound when his bus collided into a lamp post at Check Hall, Massacre in the vicinity of Mam’s Restaurant.

Today is the last day on the job for Government’s Press Secretary Sean Douglas.

Douglas who took up the position some 9 years ago was fired by letter on July 12, 2010 signed by Cabinet Secretary Felix Gregoire.
According to reports, Douglas was asked to sign a one year contract from January 26, 2009 to January 26, 2010 and refused.
He said at the time that he was fired as press Secretary and fired by the Labour Party Government, men and women that he has toiled for the last nine years.

Douglas sees the dismissal as a very painful divorce but is optimistic that he will recover from the ordeal.
During the 2009 General Election campaign Douglas was moved from a designated office at the Financial Center, to the Government Information Service (GIS) building at Bath Estate to resume his duties.
In fact Douglas was not being made aware of several major press conferences involving Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.

The matter is in the hands of Douglas’s lawyer

Sean Douglas is the nephew of deceased former Prime Minister Rosie Douglas.
