Not only does the Carnival Organizing Committee or Leo Club organize activities for the season, but some schools especially those outside of Roseau try to keep the carnival spirit alive. St. John’s School in Portsmouth is doing just that.

On Wednesday 10th February the school will hold its annual Calypso show-this being the 4th. Nine young calypsonians will vie for the title of Monarch. The hopefuls will perform in two rounds. The first round will see the competitors perform a calypso by one of Dominica’s calypsonians from various parts of the island. One such calypso dates as far back as 1978.

On the second round calpsonians will sing their own song-songs, most of which, were written by teachers. As guest performances some of Portsmouth’s famous past calypsonians like Boots, Superior Castle, Dinah, as well as St. John’s School’s very own: “The Irish Kid” will be in action.
The show begins at 4:30pm and only $7.00 adults and $5.00 children will see you in!
